Mickey Arthur has decided to step down as Sri Lanka’s head coach at the end of the upcoming home test series against the West Indies.

According to a report in Dailymirror.lk, Mickey Arthur posted his resignation on Tuesday. He has written an email to Shammi Silva (SLC chief), Ashely de Silva (CEO) and Mohan de silva (secretary), saying that this decision is “against my preferred option”, but will stand on it .

In the email, which was also sent to Tom Moody, Sri Lanka’s cricket director, Mickey Arthur revealed that he wants to join Derbyshire.

“I just wanted to inform you that I have, with regret and against my preferred option, signed a 3-year contract as Director of Cricket with the Derbyshire County Cricket Club, which is to begin after my last assignment was the Test series against the West Indies,” wrote Mickey Arthur . in the letter.

“I know Sri Lanka is a far better place than when I arrived and I have helped nurture some very good talent as well as develop a team and brand that can give SLC some sustainable success in the future,” he added .

Mickey Arthur, who has previously coached South Africa, Australia and Pakistan, said his decision to leave the coaching role was forced by the lack of communication from the board.

“All I wanted was an indication from SLC that you were happy with the work that I and my very loyal and good support staff did and I would have stayed after not receiving anything I felt without I have fallen in love with Sri Lanka Cricket, the players, the people and your beautiful country.

“I am determined to help the players beat the West Indies in the last series and will have nothing better to signify with a test series victory,” the 53-year-old concluded.

Sri Lanka achieved two victories in 5 matches on the Super 12 stage at the T20 World Cup, after winning three matches in qualifying round 1. They will host the Caribbean in a 2-match test series starting on November 21 in Galle .
