Rahul was selected for Team India instead Yuzvendra Chahal in the just-concluded T20 World Cup in UAE. However, Rahul was benched in most of the matches in the multinational tournament. He only played in India’s last Super 12 match against Namibia, where he went wicket-less and conceded 30 runs in his quota of four overs.

Rahul, however, was excluded from the squad for the ensuing New Zealand home series. Instead, he was admitted to the India A squad for a shadow series (unofficial test) against South Africa A.
