Holland’s tour of South Africa is in jeopardy, as a new coronavirus variant in South Africa has led to stricter travel restrictions.

The emergence of the new tribe, currently christened B.1.1.529, has prompted the UK to temporarily suspend flights from South Africa as well as several other South African countries as quarantine facilities for returning passengers are being prepared.

Several members of the Dutch side have contracts with English counties and live in the UK, which is set to ban non-residents from entering from 1 p.m. after 4 o’clock Sunday morning.

As flights had already been canceled, there was concern in the Dutch camp that some members of the team might even be stranded in South Africa.

The first of the three ODIs continues as planned in Centurion today, but no decision has yet been made on whether the Dutch will stay in South Africa to play the remaining two CWC Super League matches after flights resume on Sunday.
