Pakistani bowlers have Bangladesh in trouble for lunch on the opening day of the first test, and use some variation to take four wickets in the opening session of the Chattogram.
Fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali, medium pacer Faheem Ashraf and offspinner Sajid Khan shared wickets to leave Bangladesh at 4-69 after their captain Mominul Haque chose to strike only after winning the throw.
Liton Das was 11 not out with Mushfiqur Rahim at 5 at the break.
Saif Hasan hit Ali for two boundaries in the second over in a good start for the home team.
But Afridi broke through shortly after when Saif managed a short delivery to short leg for 14.
Shadman Islam also fell for 14 when Hasan had him leg-before after leaking runs in his opening form.
Khan then successfully passed for the visitors to dismiss Captain Mominul Haque for 6.
Najmul Shanto followed him then and was also caught at 14 as Bangladesh crumbled under pressure.
The hosts are missing three key players – Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal were ruled out due to injuries, and Mahmudullah, who did not hit 150 in Bangladesh’s final Test against Zimbabwe, withdrew from the five-day format.
Pakistan entered the Test series after sweeping Bangladesh in the three-match T20 series.
The guests handed over a test debut to Abdullah Shafique, who scored two centuries in three first-class matches he has played.
