The Foreign Ministry spoke about the possible entry of the republics of Donbass into the CSTO

During the briefing, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, spoke about the possible entry of the LPR and the DPR into the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“As for the entry, non-entry of the DPR, LPR into any associations, this is a matter of their policy, they are only the third day in a state of gaining recognized sovereignty, they were recognized by several states, respectively, their participation in certain associations is connected with … that the member states must first recognize them,” the diplomat said, answering a question about the prospect of including the republics of Donbass in the CSTO.

She added that the interaction of the DPR and LPR “with the world is just beginning.”

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the sovereignty of the DPR and LPR. Putin also instructed the Russian Foreign Ministry to establish diplomatic relations with the DPR and LPR, and the Ministry of Defense to ensure the maintenance of peace in their territories. In the West, Russia’s actions were regarded as a violation of international law and announced their intention to impose new sanctions against Russia. The issue of new restrictive measures is being studied in the European Union, Canada, Great Britain, the USA and Japan.

Against the backdrop of aggravated relations between the DPR, LPR and Ukraine, the heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik turned to Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the regions.
