Earlier, on September 23, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation announced the closure of the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg. The department said that, together with the government of St. Petersburg, they are already working on possible scenarios for the development of this site. Camry and RAV4 models were produced in St. Petersburg. The capacities were designed for the production of 100 thousand cars per year. The company also supplied cars to Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia.
In connection with the events in Ukraine, the suspension of production in Russia was announced by such automakers as Volkswagen, Skoda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, Daimler Truck, Scania, Volvo Trucks, Ford, General Motors and Stellantis (brands Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Jeep, Dodge, Fiat).
