[News] AvtoVAZ President explained why Lada no longer rusts

Providing protection allows, in particular, the process of cataphoresis. This was told to RIA Novosti by AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov. Lada cars are painted using modern technologies and this helps to protect cars from corrosion.

The modern technology of coloring: five layers, this is a rather high-tech process using cataphoresis. Due to certain electrochemical reactions, there is an exchange of ions and the penetration of a layer that prevents corrosion directly into the structure of the metal,” said the head of the company.

He also added that the automaker gives a guarantee against corrosion for a period of 6 years.

Cataphoresis is a complex chemical process based on an electrolytic reaction. In practice, it allows you to fix a special substance on the metal surface, which plays the role of a protective layer. This allows several times to increase the resistance of the metal to corrosion. The main component of the coating is a lead-free two-component mass, which can be presented in the form of a paste or emulsion.

Also during the interview, Sokolov said that in 2023 AvtoVAZ expects that the demand for Lada cars in Russia will reach 500 thousand cars. He explained that the board of directors headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov set such a production figure for the company.

Currently, the company represents four families of models – Vesta, Largus, Granta, and Niva. According to the automaker, 350.7 thousand cars were sold in 2021, which is 2% more than in 2020.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian car manufacturer AvtoVAZ will start producing two new LADA models in 2024-2025. It is noted that it will be a crossover on the LADA Vesta platform and a model of a separate family of the “B” segment on the global platform.
